A Last-Mile Delivery Station is where packages are sent from Amazon's fulfillment centers to be sorted and loaded onto vehicles for delivery to customers. Amazon has been expanding those locations in response to the increased demand for product delivery during the pandemic.
The facility will be built on Aloe Street and Genoa Avenue. It will act as a drop-off point for Amazon drivers to pick up items from larger, central locations and deliver them to consumers' homes. The facility will be 181,000 square feet, a fraction of the size of the company's fulfillment facilities, which can exceed 1 million square feet. Officials from Amazon told the planning board that the corporation plans to hire 150 to 200 individuals full-time and more part-time. The company will also add contract drivers, potentially bringing the total number of employees to 300 to 500.
