Founded in 2010 by the visionary Ana Claudia Deustchmann in the heart of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Geo Maritima Intermodal has become a symbol of excellence in the Latin America cabotage sector.

Geo Maritima’s success is propelled by its foundation built on unparalleled expertise and a relentless commitment to exceptional customer service. This approach has transformed the company from a mere service provider into a trusted partner, skillfully navigating the complexities of global trade.

“At Geo Maritima, customer needs are the priority and solutions are crafted to meet their specific requirements,” says Josias Hoffmann, managing partner at Geo Maritima.

Recognizing an import/export shipments gap in the transport market, Geo Maritima expanded into cabotage, integrating road and sea transport for door-to-door operations. The company identified a significant demand for transporting frozen protein, especially frozen chicken, from the poultry industries in southern and southeastern Brazil to customers in the northern regions. This led to the launch of a successful multimodal cabotage operation using refrigerated trucks.

Building on this success, Geo Maritima established a road transport company, GeoLogistica, in 2013 in Itajai, Santa Catarina. This new venture focused on container collections in southern Brazil, benefiting from its strategic location in a port city to streamline operations.

Today, the Geo Group, comprising Geo Maritima and GeoLogistica, has firmly established itself in the cabotage market.

With over 40 employees, five branches across Brazil and more than 25 dedicated trucks, the Geo Group is among Brazil's top five cabotage container shipping agents and the largest shipping agent for refrigerated cabotage cargo.

The company provides comprehensive monitoring from cargo collection to delivery. The multimodal solution encompasses more than just transportation; it extends to meticulous details such as matching container types to load specifications and tonnage capacity, particularly for food products.

For refrigerated containers, the team ensures the set point is correctly adjusted, including proper ventilation and humidity levels. The unit interiors are inspected to verify drains are open and unclogged. Post-loading, the cargo is checked to ensure it does not exceed the internal red line. Customers are advised to use thermographs for additional monitoring. The company provides comprehensive cargo tracking to fulfill security requirements for all shipments and assigns armed personnel to accompany valuable cargo. Every detail is carefully managed by the Geo Group team, showcasing the necessity of thorough planning, attention to detail and stringent control in logistics solutions.

Over the past 14 years, the company has amassed numerous success stories. One notable instance occurred during the 2018 truck drivers' strike that immobilized Brazil. At the time, the company had collected over 20 refrigerated containers for various customers destined for ports across southern Brazil. With roads closed for seven days, the team performed exceptionally by securing generators from remote cities and negotiating with strike leaders at each location to connect the containers to these generators. The team also ensured food and safety for the drivers, reflecting its commitment to employee well-being and operational excellence.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the team managed to preserve the quality of nearly all the containers. Only a few loads of short-shelf-life vegetables were lost. For these, Geo Group activated insurance to cover the costs, ensuring clients did not incur additional expenses beyond their contracts. This dedication during a difficult period resulted in excellent outcomes, showcasing its dedication to clients.

The Geo Group's commitment to core values such as ethics, respect, humility, honesty and a sense of urgency ensures its positive impact on the nation. By promoting maritime transport, the company significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions and lessens the dependence on long-distance trucking. This strategic shift enables truck drivers to spend more time with their families and enhances employees’ quality of life. These efforts exemplify Geo Group’s dedication to sustainable and socially responsible business practices.
