JULY 2024LOGISTICSTRANSPORTATIONREVIEW19 utilizing additional support from the software provider or bringing in an expert familiar with the system to train and prepare your team effectively.Too often, I've observed that while funds are allocated for acquiring new technologies, the essential training and resources needed for team proficiency are overlooked. It's only when the team faces difficulties, and possibly after experiencing staff turnover due to poor implementation that we realize the oversight. By then, it might be too late to secure additional resources, as they were not initially budgeted for.Had I anticipated this, I would have considered options like adding a coding engineer to our IT department, hiring an analyst to identify inconsistencies and improve processes by developing new metrics, or employing someone with specific system knowledge to train the team and facilitate ongoing improvements. These steps are vital to unlocking the full potential of any new system.Efficiency is essential to any operation, and technology can greatly streamline operations, from route planning and scheduling to warehouse management and inventory tracking. However, these benefits can only be realized if your team effectively uses these tools. There are new ways to look at the data coming in, or someone might come on board to just sit and train your team and help invent new processes to get all the potential out of your new system. The point is that we need to make sure, as leaders, that we are contributing to the success of our teams and allowing them all the possible resources and tools available to be successful. The added time and money from the company will lead to more effective and efficient teams that will increase your bottom line and be part of a changing work culture that will increase employee retention and happiness.Additionally, providing opportunities for skill development can attract top talent to your organization. Skilled and motivated employees are essential for technology adoption and long-term business growth and sustainability. In the logistics and transportation sector, the successful integration of new technology is contingent upon elevating and training your team. While acquiring the latest tools is essential, ensuring that your team possesses the knowledge and skills to use these tools effectively is equally important. By keeping your team up to date with industry trends, maximizing the ROI of technology investments, enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring data security and compliance, fostering innovation and adaptability, and building employee morale and loyalty, you position your organization for success in an ever-changing and highly competitive environment. In this technology-driven era, investing in your team is not just a choice; it is a necessity for sustainable growth and prosperity in the logistics and transportation sector.
